Updated: Dec 16, 2019
Oh no I have to do SEO on my Facebook page as well?! I hate to break this to you but yes, you really do have to if you want to get found online, and you want your page to rank in search engines.
SEO can be confusing, time-consuming and stressful but I’m going to take all that away and tell you how to optimise your Facebook page for Google in 5 easy steps. Ready?
1. Have a link to your Facebook page on your websites homepage
Sounds simple and it easy. Here’s the complicated bit, ensure that you are using your keyword in the anchor text as this will signal to search engines that your Facebook page is highly regarded
2. Include your main keyword/keywords in the About section on your Facebook page.
Doing this will increase the chance that your Facebook page will move up the ranking on search engines.
3. Use your keywords in your Facebook posts.
Search engines will analyse the content on your Facebook page to determine which search terms and phrases this page should be displayed for in the search results. If you never use any of the keywords then it’s likely you will never rank.
4. Claim your page vanity name
Example: Change your Facebook page link from: www.facebook.com/macys?sk=app_12796642393487 to www.facebook.com/macys . It’s cleaner and will make it easier for people to find you. Be specific here and choose a name that represents what you do or your company name.
You’ll need to have at least 25 likes before you can claim your vanity name on Facebook.
5. Get those Likes up!
Search engines look at the number of likes aka links that a page has therefore, its really important to constantly update your Facebook page and make it as engaging as possible. The more likes and interaction you have, the better you’ll rank.
And that’s it, you’re all set. You can go and make those changes right now. SEO is a continuous process and it’s extremely important that you carry out SEO on a regular basis to keep and improve your ranking.
